“And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.” — Romans 16:20 (KJV)
When we think of spiritual warfare, our minds often jump to intense prayer, prolonged fasting, or radical praise. We imagine bold, aggressive acts that push back the enemy. But what if one of our greatest weapon against the devil is something much quieter—something deeply powerful yet often overlooked? That weapon is peace.
Yes, peace! The peace of God that surpasses all understanding is a force so mighty that it can crush the devil under our feet.
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:7 (KJV)
A Fresh Revelation of Romans 16:20
For a long time, whenever I read Romans 16:20, I thought it referred to Christ’s return—the moment when Jesus would deal Satan the final death blow. And oh, what a glorious day that will be!
But as I grew in my walk with God, I realized that this verse isn’t just about the future; it’s about right now. It reveals a present-day reality—one that can change our lives. This verse holds a key to victory, showing us how to permanently place the enemy where he belongs: under our feet.
And that realization excited me!
Let’s break it down further. The word bruise in this verse comes from the Greek word suntribo, this word has the idea of partnership and means to crush a grape or shatter a bone beyond mending. That means this isn’t just a small victory—it’s total devastation for the enemy. When we operate in peace, God works with us to crush the devil so completely that he can never recover.
How incredible is that? And even more amazing—God does it through peace.
Peace as a Weapon
How exactly does peace crush the devil?
When our hearts and minds are anchored in the peace of God, we become unshakable. No matter what the enemy throws at us, we remain unmoved. The storms of life may rage, but if we are deeply rooted in God’s presence, His Word, and our identity in Christ, then the enemy loses his ability to manipulate us through fear, worry, and doubt.
The key is not just knowing that God has given us peace—but choosing to walk in it.
What Does This Look Like?
Imagine a scenario where everything in your life seems to be falling apart—unexpected bills, health challenges, relationship struggles. The enemy wants you to panic. He wants you to feel anxious, defeated, and overwhelmed. He wants you to react and forget God and what he has said.
But instead of giving in to fear, you stand firm in peace. You remind yourself:
- God is a present help in time of need.
- Jesus has already overcome the world.
- No weapon formed against me shall prosper.
And because you refuse to be shaken, the enemy loses his power over you. That’s how peace works as a weapon—it disarms the devil!
Verses on the Power of Peace
Here are some of my favorite scriptures to meditate on, that will help you gain revelation and wisdom in releasing the devil crushing power of peace.
1. Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
We stay in perfect peace when we choose to keep our minds fixed on God—because He is 100% trustworthy.
2. John 14:27 (KJV)
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Jesus gave us His peace—not a worldly peace that depends on circumstances, but a divine peace that comes from faith in Him.
3. John 16:33 (KJV)
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
Peace doesn’t come from avoiding trouble—it comes from knowing that Jesus has already won the victory, and His victory is our victory!
4. Colossians 3:15 (KJV)
“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”
We must let the peace of God rule in our hearts—it’s a choice!
5. 2 Peter 1:2 (KJV)
“Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.”
The more we grow in our knowledge of God, the more peace we will walk in.
Final Thoughts: Walking in the Power of Peace
It’s time for us to change our perspective on spiritual warfare. Yes, there are times for intense prayer and bold action, but peace is just as powerful—perhaps even more so.
When we live in peace, the enemy loses his grip. When we refuse to be shaken, he is crushed under our feet. And when we trust in God completely, we walk in victory.
So today, I encourage you—embrace the peace of God. Let it rule in your heart. Let it become your weapon. And watch as the God of peace bruises Satan under your feet.
Stay strong. Stay in peace. Victory is yours!
